CROCHET PATTERN

Explore the versatility of a 2 in 1 balaclava pattern, designed for dual functionality. Easily switch between a ribbed face covering and a snug hat with a simple roll-up feature. The hat portion is crafted using a slightly modified single crochet stitch, resulting in a dense, knit-like texture for enhanced warmth. Meanwhile, the ribbed face covering offers a perfect balance of breathability and stretch. Experience comfort and convenience with this innovative design.

SKILL LEVEL

Intermediate

SIZE

Unisex child/adult sizes XS-XL.

*For best fit, choose the finished hat circumference within 1-2"/2.5-5cm of actual head circumference (see size chart in photos).

X-SMALL (child): Finished hat circumference 18"/46.7cm

SMALL (teen): Finished hat circumference 20"/50.8cm

MEDIUM: Finished hat circumference 22"/55.9cm

LARGE: Finished hat circumference 24"/61cm

X-LARGE: Finished hat circumference 26"/66cm

HOOK

5.5 mm crochet hook (or hook size that achieves correct gauge), and a 4mm crochet hook (or hook size 1.5mm smaller than the hook size used to achieve correct gauge).

YARN

Approximately 260 (300, 340, 380, 420) yards of worsted weight (#4) yarn.

For the best results, yarn choice is key. Opt for soft, natural fibers like fine micron merino wool, alpaca, or soft wool blends with a bit of stretch, such as bamboo or nylon. These options will keep the brim flexible and easy to roll up, while staying warm and comfortable.

GAUGE

12 stitches & 20 rows per 4” {10cm} of modified single crochet (option to substitute regular single crochet stitches).

Such a great pattern ! I made one for my husband for hunting and I’m currently making some for my kids. The only part I don’t love is the puff stitches in the first round.. when the hat is done it sticks up on top of the head

Seems to be well written with clear instructions however the Modified single crochet wasn't well explained for me so I referred to the the designer's blog for a better explanation. I wasn't able to pull off the msc due to the yarn I choose but I followed the pattern with traditional SC, thus far it's coming out nicely. Pattern has lots of clear photos but no final measurement. Having made beanies before 21in is size S, 22M, followed by 23in being size large. Overall this is a good pattern and I'd check this shop for other buys.

I found the pattern difficult to read, with a very fine font on a peach colored background. It literally hurts my eyes. I've started, frogged, and restarted this pattern multiple times and it isn't coming out in the way it looks in the photo. As an advanced crocheter, I'm disappointed in having paid $7 for this pattern.

I made this for my teenage son, it was working up great until I got to the bottom half. It seemed like it was a bit larger on the bottom, I thought it was supposed to be a little fitted around the chin and neck but it looked stretched out. I think I will try this pattern again just to see if I was the problem.

The pattern stitches are much too decorative for a simple balaclava hat and the picture of the hat (neon green) on the model does not look like how the pattern turns out. It's not a pattern I would want to make more than once because it's more time consuming than I expected with the modified single crochet.

I really wanted to love this pattern. I know so many people I could've gifted the finished product to but unless you are well verse in the modified single crochet I would not recommend.

Very clear pattern--easy to follow. Worked up fairly quickly & my son loves his balaclava!
