KNITTING PATTERN: Derived from an existing design concept, our Convertible Knit Balaclava Pattern is a knitted rendition of Poppy Shop's popular 2-in-1 Balaclava crochet design. Effortlessly switching between a snug hat and a shielding balaclava, this adaptable winter essential caters to all chilly escapades. Prioritizing both comfort and functionality, this pattern guarantees warmth and style throughout the season.

SKILL LEVEL: Moderate

Small: Finished hat circumference 19.2" {49cm}

Large: Finished hat circumference 20.8" {53cm}

X-Large: Finished hat circumference 21.6"{55cm}

NEEDLES: 4.5mm 16" circulars (or needle size that achieves the correct gauge) and double pointed needles of the same size (for the crown portion) and needle sizes one size smaller (4mm) for all ribbed portions.

YARN: Approximately 135 (195, 235, 260, 310, 355) yards {125, 180, 215, 240, 285, 325} meters of worsted weight. The yarn used in the sample photos is composed of 80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon.

For the best results, yarn choice is key. Opt for soft, natural fibers like fine micron merino wool, alpaca, or soft wool blends with a bit of stretch, such as bamboo or nylon. These options will keep the brim flexible and easy to roll up, while staying warm and comfortable.

      Just finished this up today and I’m very happy with it! Pattern was very simple and I’m pretty experienced and learned a new cast on because of this pattern ☺️

      i am a beginner knitter. i have ONLY ever used long tail cast on and knit and purl in my projects so far. i decided to make this balaclava for my boyfriend for christmas and was very nervous approaching this pattern and some of the techniques in it. however, the pattern was thoughtful and detailed and was not at all intimidating, even for a beginner like myself. i am SO incredibly happy with my finished and blocked result and this pattern has given me confidence to explore more knitting techniques and some more intricate projects. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

      Great pattern. Enjoyed learning the German cast on. Video was easy to follow.

      Very quick response to my message! This is a hard pattern to find! So far the hardest part was figuring out the German Twisted, or Norwegian cast on. I'm an intermediate knitter and sometimes learning challenged. I just went thru every tutorial on You Tube until I found a super stretchy cast on I could manage. The pattern is for worsted weight yarn and that's what I needed. I re-post when I get it finished.
